The great Indian Art of hand block printing is
again an integral part of our rich heritage.
The process of Hand block Printing is an elaborate
and interesting one, where all printing is done
with the help of wooden blocks. The village
craftsman cuts small blocks by hand from hard teak
wood, using one block for each colour in a design.
The printer then dips the wooden block into a
custom- mixed tray of fresh dye bath which is
placed on top of a small table on casters and
moves down the length of the cloth stamping with
skillful precision.

To print a bed sheet of 90"x108",
the
printer has to stamp approximately 1400 times
with different blocks of as many as five or six
colours to cover the entire fabric.
Print-colours are freshly mixed each day by the
Colour-Master-in-charge of each print workshop.
Vegetable colours are used which are made
naturally and are eco- friendly. |

Though hand block printing has largely
been substituted by screen-printing in
the recent years, but the resilience of
block printing is unmatched. These are the
most durable bed sheets in India and come
in various designs and colours. |
